PALEO-FRIENDLY PASTA ALTERNATIVES YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT from WOD-Media.com
If you thought it was peace out to pasta the minute you went paleo, we’ve got a pretty cool surprise. And if pasta is what’s keeping you from jumping on the paleo bandwagon in the first place, you’ll want to read on because the surprise applies to you too. Here’s the deal: there are some awesome paleo-friendly alternatives that can satisfy even the biggest pasta craving AND provide valuable nutrition. Score!
We love this one because it’s super easy. Just slice it horizontally, scoop out the seedy part, season it as you like, and bake it in the oven. No need to go fancy here. A little olive oil and some seasoned salt makes for a whole lot of yumminess. After the squash has cooled off, scrape out the insides with a fork. The strands naturally fall out in a spaghetti-like shape.
Zoodles are zucchini noodles. They’re more like pasta as far as the actual length of each “noodle” goes, but the downside is that they’re easy to overcook because they’re naturally watery. Blanch them for a minute or two and that’s it! If that’s not your thing though, you can totally eat zoodles raw. They’re available at a lot of stores fully prepped in the produce section, or you can make the zoodles yourself using a spiralizer.
Sweet Potato Pasta
Sweet potatoes are especially cool because they’re super solid and versatile. That means more options for types of “pasta.” Try cutting a large sweet potato horizontally into long slices to use as a base for paleo lasagna. Vegan “nut cheese” replaces ricotta, but you can bulk the dish up with traditional spinach and chopped meat. So delish!
